The best sites to find free design resources

Jun 16, 2016 | Finds

Finding free design resources these days is pretty easy, but finding quality free design resources is anything but.

That is, unless you know where to look.

I used to simply Google terms like “free t-shirt mockups” or “free photography filters” and work my way through the results until I found what I was looking for. The problem was that I would often find far more low quality resources than I would high quality, and filtering through them all could be quite time consuming.

After years of doing this, I started to notice that actually, most of the best stuff I found was on the same group of sites. These sites I now regularly turn to first, before Google, or anywhere else, and I’d highly recommend adding them to your bookmarks.

Spoon Graphics

Spoon Graphics is the blog of designer Chris Spooner, with a section just for freebies in which he posts a new resource every month. After nearly 10 years, he’s managed to build quite the collection.

Creative Market

Creative Market’s Free Goods of the Week is a hand-picked selection of 6 premium design resources that are made available for members to download for free, with a fresh selection made available every Monday. Although this may not be that useful if you’re looking for a particular kind of asset, it’s a great opportunity to grab some quality resources at no cost.

Graphic Burger

Graphic Burger offers a huge variety of free resources ranging from text effects to html templates and photos. They also have a particularly amazing collection of free mockups.

Pixel Buddha

Pixel Buddha also offer a wide range of resources including icons, fonts, UI kits, and vector elements, which have been carefully crafted by the team themselves or by one of many talented guest contributors.

Dribbble

Dribbble is used by designers not only to show off their latest commercial projects but also to share resources, many of which are available for free. Depending on what you’re looking for, you can search specific terms like “free icons” or more generic terms like “freebie”, and filter the results by date or popularity.

Pixeden

Pixeden is another site that offers a large variety of resources. Like Graphic Burger, Pixeden also has a particularly fantastic collection of free mockups.

FilterGrade

FilterGrade is THE place to find Photoshop Actions and filters—a resource which you’ll struggle to find on many of the sites above.

Sivioco

Obviously, I’m biased, but there’s a growing collection of quality freebies right here on this blog, which includes free textures, logo templates, Photoshop brushes, and more.

If you have a go-to site that you think should be on this list, let me know about it in the comments section below.

    Hi, Sam,

Like you, over the past ten years or so I have been learning that some sites are better than others as far as good, quality resources. This is a great list – I visit them all. I especially like your first one! Chris is wonderful! I usually sign up for the newsletters to stay on top of what’s new.
I have a page on my blog with resource links on it. Please, feel free to copy and use as you wish. You get a lot more traffic than I do! LOL

What about Freesumes.com? The website offers free resume templates exclusively but I think it might come handy for lots of job seekers.
